Augusta Rita Freeman was born on June 29, 1932, in Basque Country, Saint Jean de Luz, France, to the union of the proud parents, Emilia Gariza (Spanish) and Manoel (Manuel) Francisco Da Silva (Portuguese). She returned home on August 18, 2018. Between 1959-1960 Rita met the love of her life the late Eugene Freeman, she was his companion of 57 years and wife of 50 years and they loved each other dearly. She travelled the world with her husband who spent 27 years in the US military. She was an independent hard worker and loved staying busy. When they were young, Rita took her children to swimming lessons, martial arts classes and ballet classes. No one could throw a better child’s birthday party than Rita. Rita was also a perfectionist. Clothes were perfectly folded, lunches perfectly planned and prepared, bills and daily activities were managed to perfection in her very unique way. In her later years, she loved visiting Cache Creek her local casino, where she was very loved and would spend every moment and every dime, if she could. She won a car once and a $10,000 prize another time. She was known for running people over in the casino with her scooter if they didn’t move out of her way fast enough. She was a beautiful, strong spirited and extremely tough woman with a heart of gold. She was strong willed and didn’t take no for an answer. She could chew you out and lift you up at the same time. She loved and enjoyed her family (especially her grandchildren), friends and casino family very much. She liked elephants and collecting figurines, beanie babies and many other fun items of interest. She also loved sharing whatever she had, whenever she could, everywhere she went. Rita is a one of a kind human being given to us by God, who will be missed by so many people who were blessed to know her.
