Berniece Lorraine Williams passed away in the late afternoon on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at the age of 75. By God’s grace, Berniece attended church that morning, received Holy Communion, and was prayed over by her pastor. The memories of Berniece Lorraine Williams live on even though she now sits with God.
Berniece Lorraine Williams was born January 11, 1944, daughter to Vernon Smith and Irene Ellen Smith of Fort Scott, Kansas. Berniece was the 2nd youngest in a family of six sisters, who include Mary Lou Johnson (deceased), Shirley Scott (deceased), Bobbie Smith, Vernetta Collins, and Paulette Newton.
Berniece was married to Jerry Cummings from 1961 to 1987, and from that union came Michelle D. Cummings, Jeffrey D. Cummings, and Stephen D. Cummings. Later in life, Berniece met a Texas Man, named Luther Jerome Williams, who charmed and loved her. Berniece agreed to become Mrs. Berniece Williams in the year 2000, and the union lasted until her death.
Berniece worked professionally for 35 years in the dental field after going back to school and earning her AA degree. Berniece was an active member of the Sacramento Dental Assistant Association until her passing.
Berniece had a love of music. She played the piano and violin and sang in church choirs all her life. Berniece had a great skill sewing clothes for family and friends. She created and sewed her wedding gown when she married Luther Williams in September 2000.
Berniece worked for the Lord through prayer and penance. She focused her efforts on the children of Kyles Temple. Several generations of the Buds of Promise were guided by her and the Lord's hands.
Berniece leaves behind two grandsons: Sundiata Cummings and James Cummings; and two step-grandsons: Demetrius Jacobs and Stephon Jacobs; as well as her three sisters, three children, and one loving husband. Blessed is Berniece. Blessed in his name. Forever with God.
