Bessie Ray Davis was born on October 28, 1940 to the union of Joe and Essie Hines in Shreveport, Louisiana. Bessie received her formal education at Princeton High School in Princeton, Louisiana. Bessie accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age and was united with Moments of Blessings House of Prayer where she served as an Usher, Choir member, and Mother of the Church. Bessie was united in holy matrimony to Love Davis, Sr. on September 9, 1960 in Shreveport, Louisiana, and to that union they were blessed with four children. They moved to Sacramento, California in 1961, where she worked for Safeway and Rice Growers of America for 19 years combined. Bessie enjoyed cooking, babysitting, shopping, keeping up her garden and spending time with the ones she loved.
Bessie Ray Davis departed this life on July 6, 2018 in Sacramento, California. She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Essie Hines, husband Love Davis, Sr., daughter Brenda Davis, sister Brandy Brown, and brother Roger Hines. She leaves to cherish her memories, her children Betty Wynne, Jeanette Davis, Love Davis, Jr., and Jasmine Peoples; 9 grandchildren Christopher White, Love Davis III, Adam, Andrea, and Derek Wynne, Teshawn, Jente, and Jasmine Peoples, and Love Davis, IV; 8 great-grandchildren, sisters Josie “Helen” Douglass, Hazel Crooks, brothers George Hines, Charlie Hines; god-daughters Loretta Walton and Shulawn Archie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
