Henry Arthur Freeman was born to James Freeman and Elnora Johnson in Oak Grove, Louisiana on March 12, 1940. He is the first son to this union and Elnora's third child.
Henry came to Sacramento, California in 1959 to support his sister whose husband was serving in Korea.
In 1960, he married Gertrude Scott of Mississippi and became a stepfather to Daryll Williams. To this union, Aaron Freeman was born in 1964. He was preceded in death by his father James Freeman, his brother Leroy Freeman, his mother, Elnora Carney, and former wife Gertrude Freeman.
As a young man, Henry worked a variety of jobs including a short-order cook and sanitation worker. He enjoyed playing the blues guitar, cooking soul food and barbeque, and watching old westerns on television.
Henry could always be counted on to call to check on his big sister Verlena, who was his biggest supporter and when time and opportunity allowed he would pay her a visit. One of the things that brought him great fulfillment was spending time with his son Aaron.
He leaves to mourn him, his son, Aaron, stepson Daryll, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his sisters, Merlene Hurns, Verlena Dorn, Deborah Cannon, and Avis Davis, and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Henry will be missed.
