Mary Katherine Revis-Johnson

August 11, 1934 ~ January 16, 2019 (age 84)

MARY KATHERINE RATLIFF, was born August 11, 1934, in Waco, Texas. She was the second of three children from the union of Mr. Burley Ratliff, Sr. and Mrs. Beatrice Otilla [Smith] Ratliff. Affectionately called “MayKat” by her family she accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. Mary received her formal education in Waco and attended Moore High School.

To her high school sweetheart, Melvin Revis, she was married and to that union, two sons were born. Mary, her husband and children eventually moved to California and made Fresno their home. Later, she met and married Willie Lendrith Johnson and to that union was born one daughter. As the proud mother of three children Mary deeply cared for her family. That dedication continued and well into her life she loved and also raised one granddaughter.

As the owner and operator of three beauty salons, Mary had a successful career spanning nearly 40 years. She was also a Board Certified Instructor of Cosmetology more than 17 years. A dozen red roses, a trophy and a key to the city were once presented to Mary by former Mayor of Fresno, the Honorable Floyd Hyde.

In 1991, she relocated to Sacramento, California. Hobbies enjoyed by Mary included sewing, cooking, bowling and participating in fashion and hair shows. While enjoying retirement Mary participated in civic and social clubs and organizations and gave back to the community. For many years she was an active member of the California Cosmetology Legislative Educational Committee, Alcazar Court #161 Daughter of Isis, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Zeta Amicae, Past Worthy Matron Ada #1 of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES), and Grand Alternate Martha of Golden State Grand Chapter OES. Mary was also a dedicated member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church until her health began to decline.

On the early morning of January 16th Mary quietly passed away in her sleep with her beloved daughter by her side.
