Steven Michael Tate, 29, of Sacramento, received his wings on September 6, 2018 due to complications of pneumonia. He was born September 2, 1989 in Reno, Nevada to Erin Stewart (Corbin) and Steven B. Tate. Steven attended Florin High School and graduated with honors in June 2007. In high school, Steven was a letterman in football and participated in his passion with the Florin High School band. This passion later led to him being selected to the Sacramento MLK High Steppers Marching Band. Steven attended Xavier University of Louisiana and obtained his degree in Business Administration and a founding member of Xavier University X-Factor Drumline. Steven graduated May 13, 2013.
While at Xavier University, he met the love of his life and began to build his future with Princess Jennifer Nicole Smith. They immediately started to plan their life together as husband and wife, and they formalized their plan with Steven proposing to Jennifer on May 7, 2016 and their wedding was planned for December 9, 2018.
Upon graduating, Steven returned to Sacramento and began working for the State of California for a total of 4 years beginning with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation where he was quickly promoted to the level of an Information Analyst and later transferred to the Department of Health Care Services.
Steven accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 10 while attending Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He was active in the Children and Youth Choir as well as the Young Adult Ministries. He was later a founding member of Sheep of the Good Shephard Fellowship.
Furthering his passion of music, Steven became a member of The Full Effect Entertainment, LLC (West Coast) by assuming a new identity of DJ Black Jedi. In addition to his role as a DJ, he was also assistant director of Full Effect music videos, participating in Full Effect podcast, and will always be seen as the spirit and backbone of the Full Effect Entertainment, LLC and operations. Even in sickness, Steven found a way to participate in special events or business.
Steven entered into the fraternity of brotherhood by becoming a dedicated and faithful member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. His loyal membership permitted him into the role of chapter treasurer up until his final day. He was often looked upon to impart his youthful outlook and to expand the organizations vision.
Steven is survived by his Fiancé: Jennifer N. Smith, Godchildren: Nicholas Woodward, II and Eryn Calhoun. Parents: Erin Stewart (Timothy), Steven B. Tate (Deborah), his brother: Nicholas Woodward (Roselyn), his maternal grandparents: Will Corbin, Jr. (preceded in death) and Evelyn Corbin, paternal grandparents, Bennie Tate Jr. (preceded in death) Carolyn Tate (Arnold), his Uncle/Daddy, Michael Corbin (Lehny), Kimberley Williams (Corbin), Karen Marshall (Andrew), and Tracy Tate. A host of cousins including very special Michael-Bradley and Jessica-Michelle.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Thompson and Rose Chapel, LLC. of Sacramento. Viewing hours will be Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 4pm -8pm The funeral will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00am at BOSS Church: 6528 44th Street, Sacramento, CA 95823.
