Gussie Lee Brown-Douglas was called home on January 23, 2020, at the age of 96. She was born March 31, 1923, in Taylortown, Louisiana to the late Mr. Walter Brown and Julia Ann Marshall-Brown. There were twelve children born to this union, Gussie was the seventh child born. Gussie attended public school in Bossier Parish (8th grade).
Gussie moved to Sacramento, CA in 1941. In 1944 she united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Walter Andrew Douglas of Bossier Louisiana. They married in Reno, Nevada. To this union, five sons and six daughters were born.
The family moved to Vallejo, CA in 1953. Gussie and Walter accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Elder Garrett in Vallejo and later moved membership to Rehoboth Church of God in Christ under Elder Peerless Jefferson in Vallejo, CA. In 1955 the family moved to San Francisco, CA. Gussie worked at White Stag Clothing Manufacturing Company. Gussie and her husband worshipped with the late Bishop Horace Douglas at the Gethsemane Church of God in Christ.
Gussie and Walter later moved membership in 1970 to Pentecostal Temple under the leadership of Bishop B.R. Stewart. Gussie served on the Woman’s Board at church baking cakes, preparing and serving dinner for the church.
Gussie resided in San Francisco until 2009 when she moved back to Sacramento, CA.
Gussie spent 96 loving years with her family. She was always a generous, giving and caring person to everyone. She loved Gospel music and reading her bible, cooking, sewing, and baking. She always told her children and grandchildren “You have a long ways to go and a short time to make it.” Her words of wisdom and her kindness will be greatly missed by all.
