Obituary

Helen Hollingshed was born in Fairfax, Oklahoma November 4, 1932. She was the daughter of Wyze McMullen and Minvare (Brown) Mapp, both of whom preceded her in death. Helen entered eternal rest on February 15th, 2021 at the age of 88. During her childhood years, she lived in Pawnee, Oklahoma until her Mother, Minvare, transitioned to Merced, California. The trip took several days by bus while traveling with Helen, her sister Maxine, and cousin Cecil.

Helen accepted Christ early in her life and joined Antioch Baptist Church in Merced, California where she was a member for over fifty years.

At the age of seventeen, she married Winslow (Woody) Woodard Sr. (deceased). Their 18-year union was blessed with three children. Helen was very attentive to her children and she worked hard making her home comfortable for her family. She would spend hours working in her yard keeping her lawn and flowers looking good. Additionally, she had several hobbies. One that stands out was her work with ceramics. She even mastered how to make molds of pieces she wanted to add to her collection. She had several different painting techniques she would use on ceramic pieces which turned out beautiful.

ln 1970, she married Edward G. Hollingshed (deceased). This marriage lasted 42 years until Edward's death in 2013. As a military wife, Helen traveled and lived in several different states. She also lived in Germany for two years. After military retirement, Edward and Helen were owners and managers of A & H Liquors, Variety Shop, and World Gas Station in Merced, California for 17 years.

After the death of her husband, Helen moved to Sacramento, California to be closer to her daughter. She resided at the Summerset Senior Living, Rancho Cordova, California for seven years until her demise.

Helen is preceded in death her by her beloved sister Maxine Baskin, her son Gregory Woodard Sr. and her cousin Cecil Moore.

Left to cherish her memory: daughter, Brenda J. Dillard (Tom), son Winslow {Woody) Woodard Jr. (Toni), grandchildren Dion Dillard (Lisa), Kedren Helen Dillard, Jason Dillard, Denise Woodard, Jassmin Woodard, Brenda Bethany Woodard, Althena Hendricks Joe), Adrian Woodard, and Gregory Woodard Jr. She has several great-grandchildren, host of nieces and nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

The funeral service will be held privately due to COVID restrictions.
