Robert Lee Hamel was born on September 9, 1951, in Redwood City, CA He was the oldest of ten children born to his late father Lionel Hamel Jr, and mother Larcell Katherine Barker. Robert attended elementary school in Salinas, CA after moving to East Palo Alto, CA. He attended Ravenswood High School where he graduated. Robert later joined the United States Air Force where he served from 1973-197 with an honorable discharge. Later worked for the San Mateo Co. Water Department in East Palo Alto, CA as a water maintenance worker. Robert was employed at Sandoz Argo Palo Alto, CA as a packaging Technician, where he met the love of his life. The late Yvonne Hamel from this union had two children Latasha Hamel and Robert Hamel, Jr. Robert was a father figure to many, a friend, a mentor, a big brother, an uncle, and a cousin. Always willing to help anyone who needed it, the glue to this family. Famous for his peach cobbler and his singing talent loved them temptations and being the oldest out of ten came with a lot of responsibility 7 sisters, 2 brothers all I can say is that God put the right person in charge to keep us all on the straight and narrow. Robert later seen in giving back to the community, he got together with his brother from another mother Vernis James to form the EPA/EMP Original Good (aka) OG's, the heartbeat of the Community. Truly been a pillar to his family and the community. He will truly be missed. I know he will be smiling down on us. Robert is preceded in death by his father Lionel Hamel Jr., His beloved Yvonne Hamel, sisters Mary Ann Puckett and Renee L. Johnson, BrotherArthur Eugene Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memory, mother Larcell K. Johnson brother Roosevelt Johnson Jr, sisters, Ollie May Johnson, Marcella Marie Johnson, Ruby Jean Johnson, Faye Paulette Johnson, and Doris Johnson-Wells. Daughter Latasha Stewart, Son Robert Hamel Jr., Grandsons DiAndre Norwood, Robert Norwood, Yvonte Hamel, Granddaughters Jasmine (aka) Jazz Norwood, Mercedes Yvonne (aka) Mercy Hamel, and Sunshine Hamel and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
